What is Laboratory Freeze Dryer?

Laboratory freeze dryer also known as lyophilisation, lyophilization, or cryodesiccation, is a dehydration process typically used to preserve a perishable material or make the material more convenient for transport. Freeze drying works by freezing the material and then reducing the surrounding pressure to allow the frozen water in the material to sublimate directly from the solid phase to the gas phase.

Benefits of Freeze Drying

Preserve the taste of any type of food. It will taste fresh, even up to 25 years later, just as it was when it was first harvested.Food maintains its same appearance, flavor, and nutritional content. Freeze drying does not cause it to shrink or toughen.
Freeze dryer small capacity fruit vegetables machine allows you to preserve large pieces of tasteful, high quality food. You don't have to settle for the small dice or shavings of fruit or meat that you find in store bought, freeze dried products. Prepare it and preserve it how you want it.

Compressor Water Cooled Screw Chiller

Better than canning and dehydrating

As a food preservation method, it is easier than canning and dehydrating and will last 7 to 8 times longer. Just put your leftover meals and ripening fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy in your own freeze dryer and press start. In about 20 to 36 hours, your food is ready to be packaged for a shelf life of up to 25 years.

Low Electric Consumption Water Cooled Screw Chiller

Preserves taste, color, and nutritional value

Freeze drying is remarkable because it causes no damage to the nutrition of the food being preserved. Other methods of preservation, such as canning and dehydrating, use higher temperatures that can destroy more than half (50%) of the food value. Freeze drying does not shrink or toughen the food but retains the aroma, flavor, color, shape, and nutritional content. Simply add water. Apples, cheese, avocados, meat, raspberries, peas, ice cream, and yogurt will still look and taste fresh because, in reality, they still are. Without water and oxygen to spoil the food, it is as if the food has been placed in a time capsule. It will last and last and last!

Freeze dry large pieces of food and complete meals

Freeze dryer small capacity fruit vegetables machine allows you to preserve large pieces of tasteful, high quality food, such as apricot halves, thick peach slices, large slabs of cooked steak, whole shrimp, ice cream sandwiches, and a lot more. You don't have to settle for the small dice or shavings of fruit or meat that you find in store bought, freeze dried products. Prepare it and preserve it how you want it.

Low Temperature Air Cooled Refrigeration Chiller

Cuts down on food waste

Leftover meals, including overly ripe fruits and vegetables, that are typically wasted and thrown away may be freeze dried until you are ready to eat them. Studies have shown that the average family of four throws away 40% of the food they purchase each year, a value equal to $2,250 or more. Families can avoid much of this waste and preserve large quantities of high quality food that would normally be put in the garbage.

Injection Molding Industrial Chiller Air Chiller

Your food, your needs

Prepackaged, processed meals typically include unhealthy additives, such as sodium nitrate, high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, monosodium glutamate, food dyes, and colors. When you freeze dry at home, your food is untainted. It will accommodate any dietary need, including food allergies, and vegetarian, or vegan needs. It is perfect for a non preservative or non GMO (genetically modified organisms) diet that is designed for a healthy lifestyle.

Nutrition

Freeze drying is remarkable because it causes no damage to the nutrition of the food being preserved. It typically retains 97% of the nutritional value. Other methods of preservation, such as canning and dehydrating, use higher temperatures that destroy much of the food value.

Laboratory Freeze Dryer Workflow

Preliminary preparation

Carry out pre processing operations such as cleaning, cutting, and mixing according to the materials that need to be prepared.

Freezing

Put the pretreated materials into the laboratory freeze dryer for low temperature freezing.

Sublimation drying

Under low temperature conditions, the moisture in the frozen material is sublimated and discharged through heating and vacuum technology.

Post processing

Take out the dried products for collection, packaging and other operations.

Precautions for Laboratory Freeze Dryer

1. Laboratory freeze dryer must use an independent power socket and have good grounding.
2. Laboratory freeze dryer must work at an ambient temperature of 5-30°c, which will help extend the life of the compressor. If the compressor is above 30°c for a long time, it will cause damage to the compressor.
3. The second start of the refrigeration system must be done after 3 minutes, which is beneficial to the life of the press.
4. If the tray and external freeze drying bottles are used at the same time, put the pallet materials first, wait half an hour later when the cooling temperature is -50°C or -80°C and the pressure is 30mTorr, and then add the external freeze drying bottles to avoid melting the hanging bottle materials.
5. Materials must be frozen solid, and the pre-freezing temperature should be below -30°C. Freeze dried samples containing non water soluble substances (such as organic soluble substances) or high concentration sugars of more than 80% and other samples that are not easy to freeze must be For pre-freezing indoors below -80℃, the pre-freezing time should not be less than 24 hours, preferably more than 48 hours.
6. When removing the plexiglass freeze drying chamber, it must be placed gently on soft objects such as rubber to avoid damage to the plexiglass and vacuum leakage.
7. The amount of materials placed is related to the ambient temperature. It is normal for the cold trap temperature to be -55°C to -40°C or -85°C to -80°C and the vacuum degree to be 5-100mTorr.
8. When air backfilling, please adjust the vacuum backfilling gas pressure to below 0.5Kg.
9. The distance between the laboratory freeze dryer and the wall is ≥30cm.
10. It is prohibited to place other heat dissipation equipment near laboratory freeze dryer which will cause the refrigeration system to be unable to dissipate heat, causing the instrument to fail to work and the compressor to be damaged.
11. After the equipment is placed stably, press the caster holder.
12. Observe the oil level and oil quality of the vacuum pump before operation.
13. Vacuum Q. block the drain pipe and close the adapter system. Otherwise, the vacuum pump will be damaged.
14. Dust the compressor and condenser fins regularly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the purpose of laboratory freeze dryer?

A: Laboratory freeze dryer removes water from a perishable material in order to preserve it, extending its shelf life and/or making it more convenient for transport.

Q: What's the difference between a pharmaceutical freeze dryer and a regular freeze dryer?

A: Home and pharmaceutical freeze dryers also differ in capacity. Since laboratories often deal with smaller specimen samples, they don't need as much space as home freeze dryers. The latter has a larger capacity to process more enormous amounts of food for preservation.

Q: What are the different types of laboratory freeze dryer?

A: There are three main kinds of laboratory freeze dryer: rotary, manifold and tray freeze dryers. Rotary freeze dryers are generally used when working with liquids.

Q: Is laboratory freeze dryer and a dehydrator the same thing?

A: Laboratory freeze dryer removes moisture from food by flash freezing it and then slowly reducing the pressure in the chamber it is stored in, which causes the moisture to evaporate. A dehydrator uses heat to evaporate the moisture from food. Both help to preserve food for extended periods of time.

Q: Why are laboratory freeze dryer so expensive?

A: The reason that laboratory freeze dryer are expensive has a lot to do with the vacuum pump. These pumps are a bit different than the kind that air conditioner technicians use in their work.

Q: How long does laboratory freeze dryer last?

A: While it is true that some laboratory freeze dryer continue to lyophilize effectively for decades, the average life span of a freeze dryer in today's laboratory environment is approximately 10 to 15 years.

Q: What is the function of freeze dryer in laboratory?

A: Freeze drying is a process in which a completely frozen sample is placed under a vacuum in order to remove water or other solvents from the sample, allowing the ice to change directly from a solid to a vapor without passing through a liquid phase.

Q: What are the different types of laboratory freeze dryer?

A: There are three main kinds of laboratory freeze dryer: Rotary, manifold and tray freeze dryers. Rotary freeze dryers are generally used when working with liquids. Small amounts of material are frozen by manifold dryers, and tray freeze dryers produce the driest product ready for long term storage.

Q: What is the working principle of laboratory freeze dryer?

A: Laboratory freeze dryer work by freezing the material, then reducing the pressure and adding heat to allow the frozen water in the material to change directly to a vapor (sublimate).

Q: Is a laboratory freeze dryer the same as a food dehydrator?

A: A laboratory freeze dryer removes moisture from food by flash freezing it and then slowly reducing the pressure in the chamber it is stored in, which causes the moisture to evaporate.

Q: What is the life expectancy of a laboratory freeze dryer?

A: While it is true that some laboratory freeze dryercontinue to lyophilize effectively for decades, the average life span of a laboratory freeze dryer in today's laboratory environment is approximately 10 to 15 years.

Q: How noisy is a laboratory freeze dryer?

A: During the freeze cycle, the machine is acting as nothing more than a little freezer, and that is exactly how it sounds.

Q: Can I plug my laboratory freeze dryer into a surge protector?

A: Most extension cords cannot handle a sufficient draw of power and may melt or deform causing a fire or other damage. Do not use surge protectors or plug your freeze dryer into a outlet. Power breaker.

Q: Is a fruit dehydrator the same as a freeze dryer?

A: A freeze dryer removes moisture from food by flash freezing it and then slowly reducing the pressure in the chamber it is stored in, which causes the moisture to evaporate. A dehydrator uses heat to evaporate the moisture from food. Both help to preserve food for extended periods of time.

Q: Can I use my dehydrator as a freeze dryer?

A: Dehydrating and freeze drying will remove most of the moisture from food, but they are quite different processes and produce different results. You can use your food dehydrator to make many delightful foods, but freeze drying candy gives you something you can't imitate.

Q: Does a dehydrator work like a freeze dryer?

A: Freeze dryers work by freezing food, then reducing pressure and adding heat. Increasing the temperature heats the frozen water in the food, changing the water into vapor. A dehydrator air dries food at low temperatures. This lower heat level means that the food does not cook in the machine.

Q: Is freeze drying just dehydrating?

A: It's important to note that while all dehydrated or freeze dried food is “dry food”, not all “dry food” is dehydrated or freeze dried. In order to be dehydrated, food has had between 90-95% of the moisture removed; for freeze dried, this percentage is higher, usually around 98 or 99%.

Q: What is the shelf life of a dehydrator vs laboratory freeze dryer?

A: The main difference between freeze drying and dehydrating is the shelf life of the finished product and the consistency of the finished product. Freeze dried products can have a shelf life of up to 20-25 years, whereas the shelf life of dehydrated foods is more around the 5-15 year mark.

Q: How long does it take to freeze dry skittles?

A: First, we measure the skittles and pour them onto the tray. And then you will give it a good jiggle. To make sure that the skittles are evenly distributed. And then you will pop them into the freeze dryer. After 12 hours, you take them out and scrape the skittles off the pan.

Q: Are freeze dried fruits healthy?

A: In fact, research has shown that freeze dried fruit holds up to 90% of its original nutritional content and is a good source of vitamins, minerals, fiber and phytochemicals — chemicals produced by plants. Freeze drying, or lyophilization, is a form of dehydration.
