Main features and functions
1. Freeze drying process
Pre-freezing: First freeze the serum, vaccine or reagent to an extremely low temperature (usually -40°C to -80°C) to ensure that the water in the sample is completely frozen.
Sublimation: Under vacuum conditions, the frozen water is directly converted from solid to gas (sublimation) without passing through the liquid state. This step requires precise vacuum and temperature control to protect the active substance from thermal damage.
Secondary drying: After sublimation is completed, the sample is further heated to remove residual water and reduce the moisture content of the sample to between 1% and 4% to ensure long-term stable storage.
2. Vacuum system
The pharmaceutical freeze dryer uses an efficient vacuum pump to maintain a low-pressure environment in the chamber to ensure that the water can be effectively removed by sublimation. The vacuum system needs to be highly stable to prevent the sample from being contaminated by the external environment.
3. Aseptic design
The freeze dryer must ensure a sterile environment in the chamber to prevent the serum, vaccine and reagent from being invaded by microorganisms or other contaminants during processing. It is usually equipped with a HEPA filtration system to ensure that the air quality meets pharmaceutical grade sterility requirements.
The closed system design ensures that no external pollution sources are introduced during the entire operation process.
